His real name was Charles Ellsworth.  Charlie signed for his part on Aug. 12, 1938.  Charlie appeared in one of the first movies ever made entitled, "Above the Limit".  He appeared in a film with his wife, Anna Chance.  Charlie played Grandpa Joad in "The Grapes of Wrath".  He played Jeeter Lester in "Tobacco Road".  He has a street named for him "Grapewin" in Corona, CA (approx. 50 mi SE of Hollywood).  Charlie was 86 when he died in Corona, CA.
